Expertise and author profile
I advise entrepreneurial families, shareholders, directors and investors in Germany on german company law. I draft articles of association, rules of procedure and shareholders’ agreements – for limited liability companies (GmbHs) as well as for partnerships and public limited companies (AGs) in Germany. In the field of german company law, I advise in particular on structural measures, directors’ duties and directors’ liability.
I support you with company acquisitions and the purchase of shareholdings (M&A), as well as with conversions and restructurings, and I prepare for business succession. At our Frankfurt am Main office, I work closely with our colleagues specialising in german inheritance law and tax law. When it comes to succession in family businesses, these three areas are closely intertwined.
Anyone drafting articles of association must understand how they will be interpreted in the event of a dispute. In shareholder disputes and disputes with the management, I advise you on strategy, negotiation and legal proceedings.
I trained at Linklaters and A&O Shearman, two leading international commercial law firms in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. From there, I bring in-depth experience with listed companies, particularly in relation to the transfer of shares in succession arrangements and proceedings before BaFin in Germany.
Career
I studied at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. I completed my legal traineeship at the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court, with an elective placement in the commercial affairs department of the German Embassy in Bangkok.
I then joined Linklaters in Frankfurt am Main in 2019, initially working in intellectual property law and subsequently in german company law. At the same time, as part of my PhD, I investigated what changes when a company is structured for continuity rather than for dividend distribution. The same questions arise in practice for families wishing to organise their shareholdings before the next generation takes over.
Since being admitted to the german bar in January 2023, I have been advising shareholders, companies and board members in Germany on shareholdings, duties and liability, and in regulatory proceedings.
In 2025, I joined the Frankfurt corporate team at A&O Shearman.
My doctoral thesis examined conceptions of humanity in german company law, with a focus on ‘responsibility-based ownership’; the thesis was published by Duncker & Humblot in 2026.
Private
Part of my family lives near Toronto, so Canada is more than just a holiday destination for me. My wife and I love travelling there in our camper van. Whether on Vancouver Island, in the Rockies or on gravel tracks leading to the Arctic Ocean – a fire steel is an essential piece of kit. Since our daughter was born, the world has become both smaller and bigger, and for the time being I’m channelling my long-standing love of rap into nursery rhymes.
